Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success

Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

The Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success is a member of the President’s Cabinet and reports directly to the President. The Vice President is responsible for providing vision, strategic direction, and oversight of the institution’s enrollment management efforts related to recruitment, retention, and completion. The Vice President is accountable for developing the college’s strategic enrollment management plan and ensuring all offices across the college are working effectively to meet enrollment targets. This position will identify and implement best practices to improve and increase enrollment, retention, completion, and student success related to the System’s Key Performance Indicators. The Vice President will supervise, Academic Advising, Admission, Athletics and Intramural Sports, Accessibility Services, Recruitment, Registrar, Student Conduct, Student Life, and the College’s equity enrollment and retention efforts. The Vice President will also serve as one of the College’s Title IX Coordinators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning for Recruitment and Enrollment

  • Design, implement, and monitor the College’s enrollment plan including enrollment targets and recruitment objectives.
  • Identify emerging markets to attract an academically talented and diverse student body that includes traditional and non-traditional undergraduate, transfer, and dual-enrolled students.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs to create a class schedule that meets the diverse needs of a dynamic student population.

Community and Partner Engagement

  • Partner with K-12 leaders, community-based organizations, and industry leaders to ensure high levels of visibility for the college, college academic programs, college athletics, available funding, and the diverse portfolio of college-provided student support services.

Retention Strategist

  • Collaborate with all college Deans and Directors, and colleagues from key units to develop and maintain support programs fostering student academic success and retention.
  • Research, develop, and assess best practices that improve persistence and support targeted programming to assist special student populations academically, personally, and professionally.
  • Review and communication retention-oriented analytics.

Marketing and Communication

  • In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Department, enhance messaging and outreach through a multi-media, multi-layered communication strategy.
  • Lead integrated outreach programs that engage key college stakeholders and best position the College to prospective students, families, and employers.
  • Leverage the power of internal technology to communicate with students in a manner that connects, engages, and retains them through the completion of their credentials.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all enrollment-related federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with SACSCOC principles of accreditation.

Special Assignments

  • Other duties as assigned and special projects as assigned by President.

Degree Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution, in education, educational leadership, or student development-related program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, implementing, and monitoring an enrollment plan including enrollment targets and recruitment objectives for higher education institutions.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role that required supervision of full-time staff, budget management, and strategic planning.
  • Experience developing and maintaining support programs fostering student academic success and retention.
  • Experience researching and identifying emerging markets to attract an academically talented and diverse student body that includes traditional and non-traditional undergraduate, transfer, and dual-enrolled students.
  • Ability to create a class schedule that meets the diverse needs of our dynamic student population.
  • Experience partnering with K-12 leaders, community-based organizations, and industry leaders to ensure high levels of visibility for the college, college academic programs, college athletics, available funding, and the diverse portfolio of college-provided student support services.
  • Experience working with college Deans Directors, and colleagues from key units to develop and maintain support programs fostering student academic success and retention.
  • Experience researching, developing, and accessing best practices that improve persistence and support targeted programming to assist special student populations academically, personally, and professionally.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and communicating retention-oriented analytics.
  • Experience collaborating with marketing and communications to enhance messaging and outreach through a multi-media, multi-layered communication strategy.
  • Experience leading and integrating outreach programs that engage key college stakeholders and best position the College to prospective students, families, and employers.
  • Experience and proficiency with student conduct, behavioral intervention or threat assessment, Title IX law, ADA/504 requirements, recruitment, academic advising, and retention strategies.
  • Experience ensuring and maintaining compliance with all enrollment-related federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Experience ensuring and maintaining compliance with SACSCOC principles of accreditation.
  • Experience creating and implementing effective, equity-minded, evidence-based practices within student services.
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations at the institutional, state, federal, and accreditation levels that impact postsecondary education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate degree, from a regionally accredited college or university, in education, educational leadership, or student development-related programs.
  • Experience leveraging the power of internal technology to communicate with students in a manner that connects, engages, and retains them through the completion of their credentials.
