Marketing/Communications and Events Director

 

The Director of Communications is a key member of the College of Law's Dean's leadership team and is responsible for implementing the College's strategic plan of communicating with key audiences, with a primary focus on prospective students and alumni.  Specific duties for this position will include:

  • Advise Dean and Directors on opportunities related to image, marketing and branding, supervise with the planning and delivery of events, and communication policy issues.
  • Monitor the public view of the College.
  • Lead discussions in brainstorming, strategy, content creation, community management, report, and analysis.
  • Oversee all primary and some secondary communication, to include but not limited to print, spoken, electronic, and social media by creating compelling and dynamic content.
  • Draft, approve, and maintain OU Law’s website, ensuring that messaging is compelling and accurate.
  • Plan and implement internal and external communication progress to effectively transmit information about OU Law’s programs, events and successes to prospective students, alumni, the University, and public through multiple outlets.
  • Manage the creation of visual assets to ensure the College of Law’s strategic priorities are well communicated. Work individually and in groups to improve communication and marketing for the departments and the college.
  • Direct advertising campaigns to include negotiating ad buys and other marketing pieces.
  • Assist in the formulation, interpretation, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
  • Supervise staff, in both areas of Events and Communications, to include but not limited to primary role in hiring, training, evaluating performance and disciplining.
  • Serve as primary liaison with OU main campus marketing and communication departments and ensure University publishing guidelines are followed.
  • Serve as the principal contact for incoming communication from national, regional and local media and the general public.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned.

 

Required Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field, AND:

  • 48 months in marketing, public relations, communications, or related experience

 

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months related experience.

 

Skills:

  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
  • Able to train team effectively to work towards shared goals and promote a positive, open work environment.
  • Writing and editing skills, especially applying Associated press style.
  • Media relations skills.
  • Knowledge of social media.
  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

 

Departmental Preferences: 2 years of experience with a legal office of association.
