ROLE of the POSITION
The Director of Student Affairs Marketing & Communications is responsible for strategizing, developing and administering a comprehensive communication and marketing program for the Division of Student Affairs. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and is part of the division's executive leadership team. In this role, the director is expected to form extensive, collaborative, and collegial relationships leading to high-level strategy and quality work products that successfully tie division priorities to key university initiatives, promote division successes, and enhance UNLV's reputation as a top tier research university.
The director collaborates with division leadership, development staff, center directors and multiple university-level partners to develop processes and strategies that will advance relationships between Student Affairs and its stakeholders. Duties include developing strategies to create and coordinate messaging for the division to strengthen the division's wide-reaching communication and branding while directing and maintaining a communications plan that highlights division, student, and staff achievement and ties division priorities with key university initiatives.
The position guides overall Student Affairs marketing and communication efforts, develops and/or manages creation of internal and external communications materials (digital or print collateral, news releases, feature stories and web content, advertising, video/script, and online and social media) for the division, its signature programs and departments, staff and students; continuously monitors and updates the division's website; delivers communications and marketing counsel to the VP, administrators, department and unit leadership; coordinating with central university communicators on news and information about the division; cultivates and maintains a strong media presence through strategic outreach; and supports annual and signature event programming and production. Collaborates with and informs unit communications team on marketing and communications efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or Marketing from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and five years of professional communications experience. Applicants must be able to synthesize information from a complex organization, think strategically, plan and implement division messaging. Possess outstanding oral and written communication skills, write in a variety of styles under time constraints, and strategically identify meaningful story angles for both internal and external audiences. The successful applicant should have experience in the production of materials such as news releases, briefing papers, web-specific content, basic marketing/recruitment materials, PowerPoints and speeches. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter able to manage multiple projects and prioritize issues under deadline and possess general understanding of website development, social media, photography and video. Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, oversee all aspects of a given project, meet deadlines, collaborate effectively with others, and guide collaborators on projects. They should demonstrate knowledge of communications planning and the ability to develop original written content for a variety of audiences as well as possessing skills in both traditional and new media operations. Experience in higher education and a strong awareness of issues in student affairs preferred but not required. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

Master Degree preferred.
