Graduate Career Consultants - Two Openings -
JOB SUMMARY
The School of Business Graduate Career and Professional Development Office is seeking two full-time Graduate Career Consultants (Career Consultants). The incumbents will report to the Director of Graduate Career and Professional Development and will provide coaching and support to graduate students studying at the University of Connecticut’s School of Business. Graduate Career Consultants will meet with students individually and present in group settings, manage programs, navigate corporate partner relationships, and contribute to a robust team of consulting professionals under the Graduate Career & Professional Development Office. They must have a strong executive presence and be effective problem solvers, accustomed to navigating both independent work and collaborative goals, strong relationship-builders, and capable of prioritizing and completing administrative tasks related to supporting a dynamic student services experience.
One consultant will focus on Technology & Data and the second consultant will focus on Management, Consulting, and Entrepreneurship. The ideal candidates will be informed of inclusive career coaching best practices and an understanding of marketplace trends in their area of focus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to:
- Inclusively advising and coaching School of Business graduate students interested in either Technology and Data -or- Management, Consulting, and Entrepreneurship; assisting in the development of job search or career advancement strategies for a diverse population of students.
- Developing, organizing, and independently executing career development programs for graduate business students interested in either Technology and Data OR Management, Consulting, and Entrepreneurship, in efforts to increase post-graduation student success.
- Utilizing industry knowledge to assist in the preparation of collateral for students across School of Business graduate programs, including, but not limited to preparing workshop materials and online offerings.
- Conducting activities such as mock interviews/case interviews, negotiation strategies, and preparing students with valuable networking strategies.
- Researching current job market and hiring trends, interpreting findings, and using knowledge to offer insight and guidance to support students’ career management goals and job search.
- Developing, coordinating, and managing external employer relations; building relationships with employers to understand hiring, recruitment, and career advancement efforts, as well as further knowledge related to the job market to provide guidance during student job searches.
- Collaborating with career and program staff internally and externally on events and student job search/career advancement strategies, under the guidance of the Director of Graduate Career & Professional Development.
- Planning, developing, and evaluating programs, meetings, workshops, and policies and procedures for the office and making all necessary arrangements.
- Utilizing a strong executive presence to successfully respond to career-related inquiries from students, faculty, recruiters, and others.
- Providing insight as to how to best communicate experience, knowledge, and education on written collateral such as: a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, etc. so that the student’s value is effectively relayed to the target audience.
- Documenting student internship and placement information in the CRM system to track statistics for use in rankings surveys and other reporting as requested. Compiling responses to rankings survey questions.
- Supervising, training, evaluating, and assigning work to administrative and/or student support staff as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field and at least three years of experience working with students, interns, or new and high-level, experienced professionals in a consulting and/or mentoring or coaching-related role; OR – Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field and at least one year of experience working with students, interns, or new and high-level, experienced professionals in a consulting and/or mentoring or coaching-related role.
- Strong executive presence, as showcased by strong communication skills and the ability to support high-level, experienced professionals.
- Demonstrated career development, human resources, or recruiting experience, with a wide array of student or client backgrounds, including early career professionals and high-level executives.
- Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, implementing, and presenting services and activities.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to develop, maintain, and grow meaningful relationships with various constituent groups and work effectively and collaboratively with School of Business and University staff, as well as applicants, students, faculty, and external constituents.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects.
- Dependable transportation and willingness and ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours and travel in-state and out-of-state as needed to support program events and activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, business administration, data analytics, management, or a related field.
- Proven industry knowledge in the fields of Technology and Data OR Management, Consulting, and Entrepreneurship.
- At least 5 years of professional work experience in a university, higher education, recruiting, or professional business setting.
- Proven ability to work independently, solve problems, and approach challenges in a flexible and/or creative way.
- Experience with assessment, data analysis, and program evaluation.
- Experience working with diverse, underrepresented, international, and/or first-generation clients or professionals.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
These are full-time positions with a salary range of $65,000 to $70,000, depending on education, qualifications, and experience. One position will be based in Hartford at the Graduate Business Learning Center; the other position will be based in either Stamford or Hartford, depending upon the applicant selected. The School may be able to accommodate a telecommuting work schedule subject to authorization and University policy. Occasional evenings and weekends, as well as in-state and out-of-state travel, will be required in support of program activities. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
