Coffee House - Dining Services Manager
Salary: $3,814 - $5,539
Regular (full-time) Employee – 40 hours per week (Benefited)
The position assists Dining Services by directing, coordinating, and supervising the daily UEI operated retail operations for one or more coffee locations in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
This is a full-time, exempt from overtime, benefited position, covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Food Management, Culinary Arts, Restaurant Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
2. Demonstrated supervisory or lead experience in the food service industry, specifically in a coffee house or related venue including increasingly responsible experience in food service planning, operations, and sales. Demonstrated experience in the preparation and service of foods in an institutional or commercial setting.
3. Demonstrated experience in the supervision, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of employees.
4. Demonstrated skill in inventory management including rotation and organized distribution of products, loss control, and related record keeping. Demonstrated experience purchasing food and supplies and pricing methods and techniques.
5. Demonstrated working knowledge of food preparation and menu development.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, techniques, practices, and procedures of food preparation, storage, and service to large groups of people; operations and use of kitchen equipment; menu planning; food service sanitation and safety; and cash handling and management.
7. Demonstrated ability to direct, organize, coordinate, and manage assigned area functions and operations.
8. Demonstrated experience preparing and monitoring budgets; organizing data, maintaining records, preparing reports; and developing and implementing sales strategies and plans. Ability to analyze retail sales operations.
9. Ability to establish and maintain good customer relations and effective working relationships; ability to ensure products and services meet the needs of customers.
10. Ability to establish and maintain job priorities when there are changes in the workload, frequent interruptions, and competing deadlines.
11. Demonstrated experience with computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet, such as the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.
12. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent inter-personal relationship skills and team building abilities.
13. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience using menu management software, such as CBORD Menu Management Software.
2. ServSafe Certification
3. Demonstrated experience working at a Starbucks.
Assistant Dining Services Supervisor
Salary: $2,929 - $4,101
Regular (full-time) Employee – 40 hours per week (Benefited)
The position assists with directing, coordinating, and supervising the daily operations of one or more retail food units for Dining Services in an efficient and cost effective manner.
This is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position that is covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated increasing responsible experience in food service planning, operations, and sales.
2. Demonstrated related experience in the principles, techniques, practices, and procedures of food service operations, storage, and service in a volume retail environment; operation, maintenance, and use of kitchen equipment; customer relations methods and techniques; cash handling and management; inventory management; and food service sanitation and safety.
3. Ability to direct, coordinate, and supervise the assigned areas; establish and maintain good customer relations; organize data, maintain records, and prepare reports; and communicate effectively.
4. Ability to ensure products and services meet the needs of customers and assist with the development and implementation of sales strategies and plans.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and/or customers while maintaining a professional demeanor and exercising tact and good judgment.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory skills or techniques needed to hire, train and mentor employees.
7. Demonstrated experience with computers including word processing and spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain job priorities when there are changes in workload, frequent interruptions, and/or competing deadlines.
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
10. Excellent customer service skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to analyze products, procedures, and services sufficient to recommend and implement effective solutions and/or alternatives.
12. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Prior work experience in a fast paced college or university food service environment.
