Broad Scope and Function |
The position is responsible for overseeing the identification, recruitment, and enrollment of individuals who are eligible for the CSUS High School Equivalency Program. The position will involve establishing a presence and creating strategic partnerships with regional organizations in the greater Sacramento areas that have high concentrations of migrant and seasonal farm workers. This includes but is not limited to North and South Sacramento. |
Reporting Relationship |
The position reports directly to and receives general supervision from the HEP Director and/or designee. The position supervises Recruitment Assistants. |
Conditions of Employment |
This position is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position, with a defined contribution retirement plan through TIAA. (The position is not covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System). Continued employment in this position is dependent upon funding and the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee, can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Program continuation is contingent upon funding. |

Minimum Qualifications |
1. Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Behavioral or Social Sciences, Education or related field or equivalent experience. 2. Demonstrated experience in advising, education or related student services field and working with underrepresented students in academic and/or career advisement. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of the unique cultural traits found in migrant families. 4. Excellent command of the English and Spanish language including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 5. Demonstrated familiarity with email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet computer applications such as the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite. 6. Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and working with all levels of employees and/or participants while maintaining a professional demeanor and exercising tact and good judgment. 7. Experience handling and maintaining confidential information. 8. Demonstrated experience working in a multi-cultural environment and ability to function effectively in multicultural settings. 9. Ability to work a flexible and changing work schedule, including evenings and weekends. 10. Self-directed with the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work independently, function in a detail-oriented capacity, and respond effectively and with flexibility to changes in priorities and deadlines. 11. Must be legally eligible to drive in California and be acceptable for vehicle insurance coverage under the University Enterprises insurance plan. Must continue to meet the established driving standards. Must possess own transportation for use in traveling to various sites. 12. Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards. |

Physical Requirements |
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines. Working Conditions |
Work is performed in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, office environments, university campuses, grade schools, community centers, migrant labor camps, and agricultural fields. Due to the demographic the program serves the position will involve frequent driving and schedule changes. |
Project Description |
The Sacramento State High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is one of fifty federally funded educational programs nationwide designed to assist seasonal agricultural workers and their families in obtaining the equivalent of a high school diploma. HEP also helps students prepare to move on to higher levels of education or training and into more stable and better-paid forms of employment. |

1. Plans, implements, and manages outreach activities for the HEP program. Researches, establishes, and maintains potential student recruiting sources. Researches data related to migrant youth in the service areas. Meets with various sources, explains the program, and secures resources for students. Maintains on-going contact with resources. |

2. Provides specialized advising in career placement, vocational training, postsecondary education, or the U.S. Military. Facilitates student career development/planning, placement services, and volunteer opportunities, internships, and the employment skills development project including educational/career cooperative relationships. |

3. Advises the North and South Region participants; participates in identifying, intervening, and providing direct academic and support resources to at-risk student populations; also participates in the Student Retrieval program including developing reports for retention. |

4. Meets with site/instructors at each HEP school site regularly. Works with site/instructors to assist in providing information to meet student’s needs. Develops and conducts informational workshops for students. |

11. Researches, develops, and maintains a central file of vocational education, higher education, and job placement possibilities as well as back-up files at each site. |
