Job Description:

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Project Manager. The Project Manager is responsible for the management, monitoring, and delivery of projects, ensuring they stay on time, and within scope and budget. The Project Manager works across ITS on all aspects of project management. She/He/They engage stakeholders across the institution to define project requirements, success criteria, and desired outcomes.

 

Reporting to the Project Portfolio Manager, the Project Manager is part of the team which oversees and updates ITS' project management framework, processes, and tools. She/He/They is engaged in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and promoting the development of project management standards and best practices. The Project Manager also serves as a consultant and coach for other ITS staff managing projects in mixed roles across the organization.

 

The successful candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to cultivate relationships with a wide range of constituents ranging from campus leadership to front-line staff. The Project Manager is expected to work under limited supervision as well as within a team environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects for the duration of the project lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related activities (scheduling, monitoring, and tracking, change management, risk management, reporting, documentation, etc.)
  • Coordinate all resources, including third parties/vendors, for executing assigned projects with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Act as the escalation point of contact for all issues within assigned projects.
  • Manage key relationships with project teams and stakeholders across the University.
  • Promote the use of processes, practices, templates, and tools as defined by the Project Portfolio Manager. Actively participate in the ongoing design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the project management framework for ITS.
  • Lead and/or participate in project-related meetings, training, and other activities as directed by the Project Portfolio Manager.
  • Mentor and coach ITS staff on best practices for project management and the use of all ITS project management tools, templates, and artifacts.
  • Commit to continuous professional growth, including training and/or activities to obtain or maintain certification and stay abreast of industry changes.
  • Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

 

Requirements:

Primary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S Department of Education or an internationally accrediting organization
  • At least 3 years of experience leading IT projects in a complex organization
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Demonstrated proficiency of industry-standard project management tools
  • Applicants must clearly address their ability to work with a culturally diverse population in their application or during the interview

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification
  • ITIL Certification
  • Project management experience in a technology organization
  • Project management experience in a higher-education setting

 

Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Assistant for University Systems Analysis, SL-4; $81,000-95,000

 

**This position has the potential for telecommuting up to 50%.
