Reporting to the Director-Residential Education/Office of Student Development, the Associate Director - Residential Education manages a complex multi-function 7500 bed residential program for first-year students, transfer students, continuing students, graduate students and students with families. This position is responsible for strategic planning, leadership, oversight day-to-day operations and managing professional and student staff. Major responsibilities include the following: management, supervision, program development, administration, training and assessment. This is a critical position that also assesses the best practices and the overall program offered to students in Student Housing and serves in an on-call capacity for student crises and risk management.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Management and planning experience within an student housing operations and residential life programs.
• Supervisory and management experience to train, evaluate, motivate, and implement performance management techniques for direct reports.
• Experience in team development, conflict resolution, budgeting techniques, managerial accounting, quantitative decision-making, advising, and discipline.
• Experience with college student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field, demonstrated through education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in working with concepts and theories of college multi-cultural student development, and the impact of a residential living-learning environment on student development.
• Experience responding to crisis situations and developing risk management policies and procedures, conducting mediation and counseling to help resolve conflicts.
• Experience developing, planning, and assessing departmental goals and objectives to achieve timely and accurate progress, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
• Experience interacting with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, and perspectives.
• Experience working with Privacy of Information Acts and confidential records and materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters in Counseling Education, Higher Education, Student Affairs Leadership or similar field of study.
• Experience conducting assessments to gauge resident and staff needs and interests.
• Verbal communication skills to lead and facilitate group discussions; lead small group training sessions; engage in public speaking; design and conduct innovative learning programs.
• Ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as to work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Computer skills to manage various computer systems (i.e. DaFIS, Outlook, third party vendor software, Word, Power Point, Publisher, Excel, etc.).
