Fire Chief, Middletown RI
Middletown, Rhode Island, with a population just over 16,000 is bordered to the south by Newport and to the north by Portsmouth. This coastal community is also a host community to Naval Station Newport and is approximately 20 miles southeast of Providence. The Town is governed by a 7-member Council and the Chief reports to the Town Administrator. The Fire Chief also serves as the Emergency Manager. The Department is an ISO Class 3/3Y full-service fire/rescue and EMS organization that has a total of 32 fulltime personnel, The Department responds to approximately 3,700 fire and EMS calls per year. The current annual operating budget of the Fire Department is approximately $4.0 million.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the Town’s leadership team. Applicants must obtain RI Basic EMT certification, have a minimum of ten years fire service experience, five of which are in a responsible command position. A Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred) in Fire Science or a related field and Fire Officer Training and certification is required or must be obtained within a timeframe agreeable to the Town Administrator.
Applicants must possess strong labor/management, leadership and communication skills and have a strong background in fire service operations and administration. Residency is required within the Town of Middletown within twelve months of appointment. Excellent benefits package, salary is negotiable depending upon experience, qualifications and education. Salary range to $105,000. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications.
