The State of California, Department of Water Resources (DWR), is now accepting applications for the Hydroelectric Plant Technician (HEP Tech) I & HEP Tech II exams.

Salary Range per month:
- HEP Technician I Range A: $5168 - $6525
- HEP Technician I Range B: $6269 - $7934
- HEP Technician II: $6885 - $8724

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
HEP Technician I Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved two-year (60 semester or equivalent quarter units) technical curriculum in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or computer science technology at the community college level, or equivalent. (Electrical, electronic, mechanical, or computer-science work experience in an electrical utility or equivalent industrial or military facility, may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience being equivalent to 315 semester units.)
HEP Technician II Minimum Qualifications:
Either I - One year of experience in the California state civil service performing the duties of a classification with a level of responsibility equivalent to a HEP Tech I, Range B. OR II - Three years of responsible and varied experience performing testing, calibration, and maintenance of protections systems, monitoring, and control equipment, communications and security systems, metering, and sensors similar to those used in generating/pumping plants, switchyards, and water conveyance facilities; and completion of an approved two-year (60 semester or equivalent quarter units) technical curriculum in electrical, mechanical, or computer-science technology at the community college level, or equivalent. (Additional electrical, electronic, mechanical, or computer-science work experience in an electrical utility or equivalent industrial or military facility, may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience being equivalent to 15 semester units.)

Under the provisions of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard CIP-004 as part of the Energy Policy of 2005, this position has authorized cyber access to or unescorted physical access around critical cyber assets and is subject to a satisfactory background check prior to appointment and every seven years thereafter.
