ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Plans, coordinates and teaches recreation classes for a wide variety of age groups.

Implements activities and provides general supervision over the use of equipment.

Supervises participants in class.

Installs and removes program equipment.

Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and in-service trainings as necessary.

Performs administrative tasks, such as completing lesson plans, instruction forms, accident/incident reports and keeping accurate attendance records.

Effectively enforces facility rules and regulations, preventing accidents and maintaining participant control.

Regularly updates the Recreation Supervisor of any schedule changes, program status and maintains regular reports as necessary.

Communicates effectively and tactfully with participants, parents or guardians and co-workers in a positive manner.

Follows oral and written instructions.

Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.

Performs physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects (up to 30 lbs.) Walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; climb ladders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; read, write and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public; write and speak clearly and concisely. Organize and conduct groups of all sizes; teach skills effectively and enforce all District policies; monitor activity in the instruction area to prevent accidents; administer first aid; inspect and maintain facilities and equipment. Make quick and accurate judgment calls. Establish and maintain positive relationships with the public and other employees; represent the District in a professional manner.
Knowledge of and Skilled in: Communications, public relations and leadership techniques; working with youth and adults in the area of expertise.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; and climb ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of high school or equivalent. Previous experience required. Three years participating and two years of teaching experience desired in the area of expertise.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Must possess American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certifications or equivalent or be willing to take a class in order to receive certifications.
