The Press Democrat, winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting, is seeking two reporters to join our team.
— Night Reporter: You will take a lead role covering breaking news in the afternoon and evening while contributing to our daily, mid-range and long-term enterprise report.
— Reporter: You will start as a general assignment reporter covering news and feature stories in Sonoma County and on the surrounding North Coast, then move into a beat that showcases your ability to find stories and tell them compellingly. If there is a subject area that particularly interests you, make a pitch for it in your cover letter.
We are a locally owned newspaper that values original ideas, aggressive reporting, authoritative writing and watchdog coverage that leads to change. Any member of our reporting team must know how to juggle daily stories, online posts, social media interaction and long-term enterprise and investigative projects. To join our team, you must be an ambitious reporter who can report thoroughly and write in a clear, engaging style for the web and print. The ideal candidate will have strong multimedia skills, including the use of a smartphone to produce video, and must be adept in use of social media for news gathering and audience engagement. Data acquisition, analysis and visualization skills are a plus, as is fluency in Spanish.
