$168,708-$240,448 annually;
placement within this range will be dependent upon qualifications 
 

The Deputy Administrative Officer (DAO) for the Office of Government Relations reports to the Chief of External Affairs (CEA) and is designated as unclassified and at-will.  The DAO is an executive management position and is responsible for a staff of 8 and an annual division budget of $3 million.  As a member of the CEA's team, the DAO oversees the operation of the Office of the Office of Government Relations and overseas the work of assigned staff in Federal Government Affairs, State Government Affairs and Local Government Affairs.  The DAO is responsible for the District's government relations, public policy strategy, and advocacy related activities at the local, state, and federal level.  This position is based out of San Jose, California and has staff located in San Jose and Sacramento. 


The DAO plans, develops, implements, and leads an effective and strategic government relations program in order to engage and influence local/state/federal policy makers, stakeholders, and special interest groups to represent and advance the interests of the District. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the District's relationships with government officials and other key stakeholders as well as ensuring the CEA, CEO, Board members, and other District staff are informed of public policies that directly affect them.
 

 

Experience:
A minimum of six (6) years of increasingly responsible administrative, managerial, or professional experience in a field related to the assignment in the public sector, water, or related industry within the most recent ten (10) years; four of the six years must have included management and supervisory authority. 

Training:
Candidates must have education and experience including graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with major coursework in business/public administration, architecture, or a closely related field or a field specifically related to the work group assigned. A Master's degree is highly desirable.
