REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown
below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or
abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements.)
Inspect facilities to determine possible pest problems and implement appropriate preventive or mitigating course of action in accordance with integrated pest management program.
Apply chemicals and/or set traps in accordance with accepted industry practices and prescribed regulatory
standards; set spikes or screens for bird barriers and other exclusion devices for avian pests.
Prepare and mix chemical agents used in pest control and eradication in accordance with prescribed instructions and warning/cautionary statements.
Pre-treat soil of foundations, slab floors or crawl spaces with termiticide prior to construction or erection of
structures, e.g., portables and sheds.
Treat subterranean termites and other wood boring pests with appropriate methods and chemicals; coordinate with other trades personnel.
Maintain accurate records of chemical and biological agents used for environmental regulatory and reporting
purposes; report monthly use report of pesticides to the County Agricultural Commission.
Follow governmental regulations regard the pre/post posting requirements for non-exempt pesticides.
Eradicate and/or control tree and plant diseases through chemical solutions.
Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of pest control chemicals.
Provide information to staff and administration concerning the presence of any public health dangers, specifics of pest infestation, and various appropriate control measures; respond to inquiries from parents and staff regarding pesticide usage with discretion, sensitivity to diverse cultures and utmost diplomacy.
Perform duties wearing appropriate protective clothing, approved respirator, and other equipment when necessary adhering to OSHA and industry standards.
Utilize, maintain, and calibrate equipment and tools specific to the trade such as portable chemical spray
applicators, trailer mounted spray rig, traps, foggers, and bait containers, bait dispensers, and bird barrier machines; drive a district vehicle to conduct work.
Complete and keep work orders, inspection reports, pest control logs, and daily activity logs. Maintain inventory of chemicals and equipment.
Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of pest control chemicals. Guarantee safety at all times in use of pesticides, baits, and traps in and around school facilities.
Train other personnel in preventive pest control methods. Educate District personnel in the importance of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, and materials utilized per work site; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe equipment use and operation; lift and carry light to moderately heavy objects.
Respond to emergencies or critical incidents, resolve, contain, and/or prevent physically injurious or otherwise
environmentally hazardous conditions.
Work with school improvement initiatives that close student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and
economic groups by working with all of the diverse communities.
Work an alternative work week schedule.
Must be available for mandatory overtime during critical time.
Perform related duties as assigned
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school, and three years of experience in termite or other
wood destroying insect control work and/or structural pest, fungus, and rodent work. Experience in both structural and termite control work required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver's license, and provide proof of insurance; employee entrance evaluation (lifting
test); physical examination for wearing a respirator. Field Representative license Branch 2 issued by the Structural Pest Control Board of the California Department of Affairs; valid Qualified Applicators License (QAL) issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation; Field Representative license Branch 3 must be obtained within ten (10) months of employment. The required licenses must be maintained throughout employment. Ten hours of continuing education per year is required.

Apply chemicals, set traps, safely operate equipment, and install exclusion barriers to alleviate pest problems.
Train other personnel in preventive pest control methods.

Read, understand, and follow chemical labels.
Maintain records, and prepare complete and concise reports.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Operate and maintain specialized tools of the pest control trade.
Meet state and district standards of professional conduct as outlined in Board Policy.
Lead Abatement Awareness.
SAMPLE ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor work environment; drive a vehicle to conduct work; exposure to adverse weather conditions; work in confined spaces or heights; work with and around students, staff, parents, and community groups at all facilities.
SAMPLE PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderately heavy objects and materials; climb ladders; tolerate heights and enclosed or confined spaces; walk and stand for extended periods of time; bend at the waist; stoop, crouch; or crawl, reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; hear and speak to exchange information; see to perform duties; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand tools and specialized equipment.
SAMPLE HAZARDS:
Exposure to toxic chemicals, strong odors, and vapors when mixing and spraying; subject to being stung or bit, heat stroke, and trap malfunctions; work at heights and in confined spaces; potential exposure to hazardous materials; exposure to dust.
