Senior Accountant
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for general ledger accounting oversight, application of GASB reporting requirements and grant accounting and reporting supervision. The duties below are typically performed by this position:
- Manages general ledger activities across all funds, including review, analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet and/or income statement accounts
- Supervises accounting close activities and supports the annual financial audit
- Oversees accounting and reporting for grants and other special revenue funds
- Ensures effective internal controls to safeguard District assets
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Government Accounting Standards Board reporting requirements. Demonstrated success in developing and managing fiscal services and systems in a government agency. The candidate is an experienced user of and manager over contemporary enterprise financial management software and possesses advanced Excel skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to support and direct staff and facilitate process improvement are required. The candidate will have a collaborative work style and be results oriented.
The candidate must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other District staff, and state and federal agency representatives; develop, prioritize and achieve program goals and objectives; and prepare, review and present reports and recommendations orally and in writing.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field with five or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting and finance or any combination of training and/or experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
