CUSTODIANS
RESCUE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
$17.93 - $22.89 per hour DOE, must be available for AM and PM shifts, 8 hours per day through May 28, 2021
BASIC FUNCTION:
To perform cleaning and custodial functions at assigned site (s) and perform occasional
routine grounds keeping and maintenance duties in the upkeep of District buildings and
facilities. These activities are required to maintain an environment that is safe and
appropriate for the maximum learning of all students in the Rescue Union School
District.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Under the direction of the lead custodian performs cleaning and custodial functions at assigned site(s).
- Cleans classrooms, rest rooms, cafeteria, multipurpose rooms, gyms, libraries, offices and related facilities including but not limited to the following; sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, vacuums, and shampoos carpets and floors; cleans walls, furniture, windows, woodwork, writing boards, and light covers; empties, cleans, and lines trash receptacles; dusts furniture, windowsills, and shelves; responds to emergency cleanups such as spills and clogged drains; checks and refills towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers;
- Operates equipment such as vacuums, buffers, power washers, scrubbers, steam cleaners, lawn mowers and trimmers.
- Raises/lowers flags; sets up/takes down playground equipment.
- Picks up papers and debris; cleans walkways and entrances.
- Locks and unlocks doors, windows, and gates to ensure security of buildings and related areas; turns alarms on/off.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER OCCASIONAL DUTES:
- Sets up and arranges furniture and facilities for assemblies, lunch, meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Performs routine grounds keeping duties as assigned, which may include mowing, weeding, and watering lawn.
- Performs minor/touch-up painting; replaces lights.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair to buildings, fixtures, and equipment; adjusts shades/blinds and desks, touch-up painting, replaces lights; assembles furniture.\
- Reports vandalism, damage, health and safety hazards to appropriate authority.
- Assists in performing a variety of general maintenance tasks during summer months under the direction of the Lead Custodian; including painting, light electrical work, carpentry, and plumbing as assigned.
- Assist in the distribution of school/district supplies.
- Monitors and responds to District communication networks.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Modern cleaning methods materials, tools and equipment associated with custodial work as well as the care and maintenance of custodial/ grounds keeping equipment and tools.
- Routine grounds keeping methods and practices including the safe use and operations of equipment/chemicals used in custodial/grounds keeping work.
ABILITY TO:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Safely use cleaning agents, equipment, and materials.
- Keep simple records.
- Perform general gardening and custodial work.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.
- Establish and maintain work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, district employees, or members of the community.
- Use and climb ladder appropriately and safely.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to dust, chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, variances in temperature, equipment with moving parts, roof and crawl spaces.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strength and energy sufficient to maintain a rigorous work schedule involving driving and/or continuous, heavy physical exertion; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; standing for extended period of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to perform assigned duties, lifting heavy objects.
- Regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials.
- Requires great physical demand for strength and endurance, involving heavy physical exertion.
REQUIREMENTS:
A valid Class C California driver’s license, TB test clearance, California Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and Physical Ability and Entrance Evaluation. Board Adopted: February 12, 2008
