General Description:
The Deputy Title IX Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Title IX Coordinator, as assigned, in facilitating available, appropriate, and reasonable supportive measures to those impacted by a reported incident of potential of sex- and/or gender-based discrimination, including sexual misconduct, providing reasonable accommodations for pregnant and parenting students and employees, and investigating and/or facilitating informal resolutions of complaints of sex- and/or gender-based discrimination, including sexual misconduct, at NOVA in accordance with federal and state laws and state and institutional policies.
Duties and Tasks:
- Assists with review of Title IX reports, outreach and/or referral, conducting intakes, report tracking, and general case management of reported incidents.
- Coordinates and implements, as assigned, supportive measures for students and employees who disclose potential Title IX incidents to NOVA.
- Conducts prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into sex-based and/or gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct (including sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking).
- Interviews complainants, respondents, and witnesses, and obtains and reviews supplementary evidence, analyzing and synthesizing information gained through the investigation process, and composing an investigation report detailing the relevant information obtained.
- Facilitates alternate/informal resolutions, as assigned, and drafts Resolution Agreements for cases resolved through alternate/informal resolution processes.
- Maintains accurate and complete Title IX case records in the appropriate case management system.
- Provides support for Title IX requests for pregnancy and parenting accommodations, including coordinating with appropriate faculty and staff to implement reasonable and appropriate academic and/or work adjustments.
- Applies institutional policies and procedures accurately and stays informed of current trends and best practices related to Title IX, VAWA, Clery, FERPA, and other laws relevant to the work of the Title IX Office.
Required KSA’s:
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and regulations associated with Title IX, Title VII, VAWA, Clery Act, FERPA, and other relevant laws and statues associated with sexual misconduct and gender-based discrimination.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and student populations.
- Ability to handle private and confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.
- Ability to use sound judgement in researching issues, resolving issues, and providing support to members of the college community regarding Title IX matters.
- Ability to manage complex project plans, including organizing and facilitating investigations or meetings.
- Ability to work independently or a team environment.
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated interviewing and investigation skills (in person and virtually).
- Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and spoken).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Significant experience working in a Title IX, Civil Rights, or other compliance offices.
- Some experience conducting investigations regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and sexual violence or the equivalent as defined by Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, or other federal and state statues associated with discrimination or sexual misconduct.
