McClatchy is seeking an Accounting Analyst to perform advertising accounting functions related to analyzing revenue transactions in AdBase and perform system processing. The Accounting Analyst will report to the Centralized Advertising Supervisor and work closely with the Advertising Team Lead and Supervisor, SSC Centralized Credit Team, and Finance Advertising Director.

The Accounting Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Supporting multiple business units with advertising accounting 
  • Ensuring that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting 
  • Applying standardization changes related to advertising revenue processing and reporting
  • A/R balancing documentation
  • Providing accurate reporting to corporate and internal audit on a monthly & quarterly basis
  • Completing monthly online verification for all digital products
  • Performing month-end processing in AdBase/Analytix and ensure correct recognition of Advertising Revenues
  • Ad hoc Audit requests related to advertising revenue
  • Supporting internal customers located in different time zones throughout the United States 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working for a public accounting firm 
  • Must have a strong understanding of GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Proven ability to accurately evaluate and conclude on complex technical accounting issues (e.g. revenue recognition, cost and expense accruals, deferrals, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills
  • PC proficiency with Google and Windows environments, including a strong working knowledge of Excel, Word and Google documents
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work effectively work on a distributed team

Preferred:

  • Big 4 experience
  • Understands a variety of functional areas in media including newspaper and digital accounting
  • CPA
