The Springfield, Oregon paper mill is seeking a Process Controls Engineer. The Process Controls Engineer is an integral position in the maintenance and engineering organization and will work closely with a variety of different functional groups throughout the mill including operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence and management. This position will have on call responsibilities and report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Accountabilities: Designing and implementing process control strategies to support new and existing processes to include process efficiency improvements and optimization, process variability reduction, compliance with environmental and safety requirements and equipment/process reliability. Assisting with and/or acting as Project Manager for capital improvement projects. Selecting and approving hardware and software designs for new process automation projects. Developing program logic using functional descriptions and programming. Providing control tuning and software recovery procedures. Optimize process control system in all departments of mill. Supporting PLC, DCS, Drives, IEPM, CLPM in advisory role. Assist with maintenance contracts for ABB Drives, DCS Customer First Agreement, QCS Quality Control systems. Maintain network security and backups for all control systems. Troubleshooting control software and hardware. Monitoring and maintaining the health of the DCS and interface sub-systems. Assisting in the development of improvements to control systems. Repairing operational and functional DCS related problems. Maintaining and providing support for modifications to process graphic displays. Assisting with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) of control systems. Considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future manufacturing environment. Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and maintenance employees. Support training of operators and maintenance personnel on new control functions. Assist technical groups with process improvement activities. Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations. Responsible for business continuity of process control systems through documentation, training and management-of-change process. Sharing the responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for all Process Control mill needs.
Qualifications: 5+ years' experience as a process control engineer is highly preferred. Process knowledge in Pulp and Paper manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience in other manufacturing/engineering positions will be considered. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and safety leadership, as well as effective facilitation, project execution, and follow-up and problem-solving skills. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Proficient to advanced skills and knowledge with MS Office and Network Applications is required.
