The Goodwill Cypress Creek store is now hiring the following position:

Sales & Senior Sales Associates:  Responsible for assisting customers, stocking, displaying and rotating store merchandise, and conducting cash register transactions.

JOB SUMMARYSenior Sales Associate

Under direction from the retail store manager or assigned on-duty supervisor, this is an entry-level supervisory position in the retail stores responsible for assisting in the management functions of the store. SENIOR SALES ASSOCIATE – 2 This is also a working supervisory position where directing the work, delegating assignments, and physically performing any necessary tasks will all occur routinely. These functions include: • Processing, merchandising and selling of goods received; • Training and supervision of employees; • Maintaining good customer and donor relations; and • Timely and accurate completion and submission of reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Physical Examination: All post offer, pre-placement hires must pass a physical examination to ensure that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  2. Attains SALES QUOTA for store! Success of the agency's operational budget for the fiscal year is directly related to our stores achieving their weekly projected sales quotas. Every retail store employee needs to be aware of the importance of the sales quota and the need to exert every effort to achieve it. For management personnel, sales quota achievement must remain an utmost priority, which is clearly and consistently communicated to employees.
  3. In the absence of the store manager, senior assistant sales manager and assistant sales manager, is the primary supervisor on-duty for overall store operation.
  4. Instructs employees on the methods for receiving and preparing merchandise for sale. Directs the work of employees and delegates assignments (with follow-up!) to accomplish this. It is routinely expected that the senior sales associate will physically perform any of the tasks necessary for accomplishing the work of the store. Ensures goods are stocked and displayed in an orderly and attractive fashion that is appealing and accessible to customers. a. Goodwill donation and sales sites are subject to changing and unpredictable circumstances, especially regarding the ebb and flow of donations and the need to efficiently move a significant volume of goods through the processing and retail store system. This position is expected to be responsive to these needs; showing initiative to accomplish the tasks at hand and being prepared to move between assignments as priorities change, including the processing of goods.
  5. Operates cash register as required, assures that cash register and transaction procedures are strictly followed. Corrects any register or transaction errors according to established procedures. 6. Assists customers and donors. Handles customer concerns with the goal of achieving customer satisfaction while staying within established store guidelines and Goodwill-Suncoast policy. Ensures that employees also do the same by instruction and modeling effective problem resolution.
  6. In order to promote customer and donor satisfaction during their experience with Goodwill-Suncoast, it is mandatory for employees who come in contact with the public to maintain a positive work outlook and to project a pleasant, courteous, and helpful demeanor at all times when dealing with customers, donors, co-workers, community service workers, and clients/consumers or other program participants. Keeps retail store manager informed of all unusual circumstances.
  7. Maintains accurate daily records including sales and deposit reports in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  8. Acquires familiarity with agency Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and retail store procedures and guidelines. This specifically includes store employee purchase procedures. Ensures familiarity and compliance among employees within area of supervision. In conjunction with the retail store manager, senior assistant sales manager and assistant sales manager, handles employer/ employee relations. Notifies management of problems with employee conduct or performance.
  9. If assigned, is trained in and expected to be familiar with store administrative and operational procedures so as to be able to run the store in the absence of the retail store manager, senior assistant sales manager and assistant sales manager (includes staffing schedules/payroll, community service workers, paperwork, incident reports, ordering, emergency procedures, etc.). This requires that initiative be taken to learn these functions by actively seeking out knowledge, asking questions, observing management’s performance of duties, etc. Must be familiar with job duties and methods of performance for all store employees and positions.
  10. The senior sales associate, in conjunction with the store management, plays a significant role in maintaining the morale of the store. Positive morale in the store and among employees impacts everything from retention of employees, to efficiency and productivity of work, to how the customers feel when they're in the store. The senior sales associate is expected to at all times maintain a positive "upbeat" and professional demeanor, to deal with all employees in a fair and impartial manner, to work towards resolving employee problems, and to actively and consistently bolsters employee morale. Any constructive criticisms or corrective efforts need to be directed to the manager for action.
  11. Maintains pro-active support of agency security programs, policies & procedures, and guidelines. Adheres to applicable store security procedures. Responsible for reporting all workplace security issues, concerns, or violations, whether directly observed or otherwise brought to your attention. Ensures compliance among employees within area of supervision.
  12. Ensures the store environment is comfortable for the customer and conducive to shopping. Neatness, cleanliness, clean restrooms and fitting rooms, pleasant odor, clear aisles and walkways, readily-available customer assistance, positive and friendly demeanor of all employees, appropriate music, merchandise displays, etc., are all features of the store environment to be considered.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the indirect supervision of 3 to 60 retail store employees.

EDUCATION

  1. High school/GED or equivalent preferred.
  2. Fluent reading skills.
  3. Complex math skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).

EXPERIENCE

  1. Desire minimum of six months experience in retail setting involving customer contact, merchandising and cash register transaction experience. Experience in a Goodwill-Suncoast retail store is beneficial, but not required.
  2. Desire some supervisory experience (such as hiring, training, employee performance evaluation, and employee conduct/performance problem resolution).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  1. Completion of the retail training modules related to this position.
  2. Ability to establish priorities while handling multiple assignments.
  3. Good organizational skills.
  4. Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  5. Ability to make independent decisions within established guidelines.
  6. Good interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written).
  7. Accurate with numbers and details.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSES/SCREENING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Subject to alcohol and drug testing as specified in the Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  2. Subject to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and local law enforcement background checks. Employment is contingent upon these findings.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION

  1. Ability to deal effectively and positively with customers and donors.
  2. Ability to deal with vendors.
  3. Ability to deal with program participants, and community service workers.
  4. Receiving visitors at the retail store.
  5. Telephone contact.

EQUIPMENT

  1. Cash register, charge card machine and counterfeit scanner.
  2. Various office machines including telephone, copier, calculator and facsimile.
  3. Various production equipment including a pricing gun, stapler, hand truck and merchandise racks and carts.
  4. Computers utilizing a Windows environment and Microsoft Word software and POS system.
