The Goodwill Cypress Creek store is now hiring the following positions:
Processing & Senior Processing Associates: responsible for greeting donors, accepting donations, preparing donated and new goods for sale in stores through sorting, cleaning, categorizing, sizing and pricing.
Job Requirements: High school/GED or equivalent preferred. Prefer some experience in retail. Subject to criminal history background checks. Subject to alcohol and drug testing
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the staff member designated above, performs a variety of duties at the store, ADC or other processing site such as greeting donors and accepting donations as well as preparing donated and new goods, both hard and soft lines, for sale in retail stores through sorting, cleaning, categorizing, sizing and pricing; may assist with the merchandising of goods, loading or unloading trucks and trailers, and general cleaning duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Physical Examination: All post offer, pre-placement hires must pass a physical examination to ensure that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Goodwill donation and sales sites are subject to changing and unpredictable circumstances, especially regarding the ebb and flow of donations and the need to efficiently move a significant volume of goods through the processing and retail store system. This position is expected to be responsive to these needs, showing initiative to accomplish the tasks at hand and being prepared to move between assignments as priorities change.
May work in a retail store at the drive-up donation door, in the processing area, or on the sales floor, in an Attended Donation Center, or other processing site depending on the work to be completed.
Meets donor at their vehicle with friendly greeting, actively rendering every donor with assistance when unloading their donation. Ensures name-tag is prominently displayed during all working hours as a courtesy to the donor. The “customer service” aspect of this position is very important.
Uses established guidelines to make decisions about what items can or cannot be accepted as donations. Offers explanation to donor when a donation cannot be accepted that may include giving a copy of the "Cannot Accept" letter. Makes certain to thank the donor for donating to Goodwill-Suncoast and for keeping us in mind for future donations.
Offers each donor a receipt and Goodwill-Suncoast literature (when available) regardless of the quantity or value of the accepted donation. Makes certain to thank each donor for thinking of Goodwill-Suncoast and encourages them to come again if they have items to donate in the future.
Prepares donated goods for retail sale, return to Outlets and for salvage. May be assigned to any of the following functions according to daily or weekly needs and will be required to meet daily production goals:
Sorts soft lines according to established quality standards. Inspects for salability and sorts items into appropriate categories for hanging, salvage, or trash.
Must be able to complete the following, on average, per hour with or without reasonable accommodation:
(1) Hang, sort, size and/or tag 100 units/pieces of clothing.
(2) Sort and process 4.5 “Needs To Be Processed” (NTBP) carts of hard lines.
(3) Sort, hang/fold, price and tag 3.0 carts of NTBP household.
(4) Price 196 pieces of textiles.
Sorts and scans books; packs accepted books into carts.
Tags, tickets, prices donated, and new goods as required.
To accomplish overall sales goals, every employee must realize the importance of maximizing the quantity and quality of goods put out in Goodwill-Suncoast stores for resale. The processing associate is responsible for showing special care in the selection, handling, packing, and moving of all donated goods to ensure that maximum retail value and quality are maintained.
Assist with unloading of trucks, trailers, and store deliveries as needed. Also assists with
appropriately containerizing and loading store returns and trash.
Will routinely perform general material handling duties, such as moving goods from donation trailer to the processing area or to the store, moving goods between departments or holding areas, moving goods from donors’ vehicles, loading purchased goods into customer’s vehicle, and assisting with displays or movement of goods in the store. Uses lifting aids as needed.
Maintains daily records such as donor count sheets, donor receipts, and daily production reports as directed or required.
Must become familiar with store pricing guidelines, including boutique or “better clothing” pricing, and may assist with pricing of goods as directed.
Must become familiar with the ADC Manual for information pertinent to handling donation
situations. Handles items considered "hazardous materials" according to established procedures.
May perform a variety of cleaning duties to include sweeping and mopping the facility, cleaning restrooms, cleaning windows, dusting, trash and litter pick-up, taking trash to the dumpster, breaking down empty boxes for disposal, dealing properly with other discard items, cleaning the parking lot and outside premises, etc.
As a representative of the agency to the public, maintains a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance at all times; dressing in a fashion that is both presentable to the public and appropriate to the work environment. Open-toed and/or open-heeled shoes present a safety hazard and are not permitted.
To promote customer and donor satisfaction during their experience with Goodwill-Suncoast, it is mandatory for employees who come in contact with the public to maintain a positive work outlook and to project a pleasant, courteous, and helpful demeanor at all times when dealing with customers, donors, co-workers, site sponsors and the general public. In any situation where a donor or other individual is complaining or disgruntled, attempt to resolve the problem. If this is not possible, refer the individual to your supervisor, making sure to notify your supervisor as soon as possible so they may anticipate handling the problem. This “customer service” problem-resolution aspect is, again, very important.
EDUCATION
- High school/GED or equivalent preferred.
- Basic reading skills
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication).
EXPERIENCE
Some retail or manufacturing experience desirable.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/TRAINING
- Completion of the training modules related to this position.
- Ability to organize the tasks to be accomplished.
- Self-motivation and ability to follow-through on assigned tasks.
- Ability to make basic decisions within established guidelines but knowing to ask management if any issue or situation is unclear.
CREDENTIALS/LICENSES/SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
- Subject to alcohol and drug testing as specified in the Drug-Free Workplace Program.
- Subject to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and local law enforcement background checks. Employment is contingent upon these findings.
COMMUNITY INTERACTION
- Ability to deal effectively and positively with customers and donors.
- Ability to deal with clients/consumers, program participants, and community service workers.

- Various production equipment including a hand truck, carts and totes, pricing gun and stapler.
- Gloves and back support belt.
