The George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services seeks an energetic Program Manager/Training Specialist to support the HRSA Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program. About the College of Health and Human Services:
The College of Health and Human Services comprises six academic units (departments): Global and Community Health; Health Administration and Policy; Nursing; Nutrition and Food Studies; Rehabilitation Science; and Social Work. The College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate and 1,300 graduate students and approximately 120 faculty and staff. With the recent launch of its PhD in public health degree offered with 2 concentrations, the College has accomplished several key milestones necessary to becoming the first college of public health in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As part of these efforts, CHHS remains committed to transdisciplinary research and inter-professional practice leveraging the notable health disciplines comprising the College.
About the Project:
The George Mason University’s Department of Health Administration and Policy has received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration to create a Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program. The goal is to support the mental health and well-being of the current health care workforce and preserve and enhance the psychological well-being of the future health professionals.
Responsibilities:
The Program Manager/Training Specialist will support the HRSA Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program. This position is intended to be focused half on program management duties and half on training specialist responsibilities. The main responsibilities for the Program Manager/Training Specialist are:
- Work with the director of the Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program on activities to support training activities, such as communication with internal and external partner organizations about training events and data collection and analysis for evaluation;
- Work with Mason’s Center for the Advancement of Well-Being’s Director of Well-Being Programs and Mason faculty and staff to deliver evidenced-based education and training courses with the goal of reducing burnout, suicide, mental health conditions and substance use disorders and promoting resiliency among students and working healthcare professionals;
- Work with project team to customize an asynchronous, online resilience training program for frontline healthcare workers;
- Formulate training outlines and determines instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops;
- Develops training aids, including training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works;
- Coordinates administrative tasks necessary to deliver and document training programs;
- Responsible for ensuring training and education participation databases are developed and maintained;
- Assists in the evaluation of training and educational programs and utilizes evaluation data to recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods for short-term training and educational program in the College of Health and Human Services; and
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in a relevant field is the minimum qualification for appointment as a research manager;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
- Ability to determine training objectives;
- Organization and coordination skills;
- Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology;
- Adequate knowledge of learning management software and related technology; and
- Ability to prepare instructional aids and plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge in health, mental health, and well-being related fields;
- 2- years experience with education and training programs targeted to healthcare professionals (nurses, social workers, public health practitioners, and health care managers);
- 2- years experience with education and training programs for persons who live and/or work in rural and underserved areas or serve individuals from traditionally underserved populations (minority groups, low income, etc.);
- 2- years experience with educational technology, online courses, and learning management systems; and
- Teaching and facilitation skills.
