Associate Administrative Director

The George Mason University Student Health Services Department, invites applications for an Associate Administrative Director for the Fairfax campus with occasional travel to our Mason Square (formerly Arlington) and Science and Technology (formerly Prince William) campus locations.

About the Department:

Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Administrative Director provides direct and continuous oversight for fiscal, office and billing management, facility management, and immunization and insurance office management for Mason’s Student Health Services; collaborates with the Associate Medical Director, Associate Nursing Director, Associate Behavioral Health Director for internal procedures, and Executive Director for external collaborations or large scale SHS changes to develop and revise Student Health Service policies and procedures in compliance with accepted accreditation standards for student health services, supervision of the administrative staff, and budget management.

  • Responsible for all administrative personnel-rated functions for Mason SHS in cooperation with SHS unit supervisors. This includes recruitment, retention, conflict resolution, maintenance of appropriate records, promulgation of reports, and compliance with University and governmental policies and procedures;
  • Develops annual budget with Executive Director, Associate Medical Director, and Associate Nursing Director; manages monies within the limit of the budget in coordination with the Office Manager, Billing Manager, and University Life Budget staff; this includes Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) management, authorizing expenditures for supplies, and appropriate staffing;
  • Develops annual goals and objectives with Executive Director and Executive Committee;
  • Oversees immunization and insurance programs for Student Health Services;
  • Supervises Office and Billing managers, and Immunization and Insurance office staff;
  • Mediates concerns or complaints that might be expressed by students or parents;
  • Coordinates contractual services and MOU’s which includes, but are not limited to, medical equipment and supplies, lab services, student health insurance, training of resident physicians, training of nursing and nurse practitioner students, medical software/EMR, laundering of lab coats, and inter-departmental agreements such as, blood draw services and Tuberculosis screenings;
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Committee of Student Health Service;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., Business Administration, Nursing Administration, Health Care Administration, Health Systems Management);
  • Demonstrated fiscal and budgetary experience for a business unit;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience of patient/customer facing staff; and
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience typically obtained 2-5 years of supervisory experience;
  • Experience typically obtained 2-5 years of fiscal and budgetary experience;
  • Experience in medical and mental health outpatient offices;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fiscal and budgetary responsibilities for health care department, preferably an ambulatory health care unit;
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze date to make data-based decisions; and
  • Experience typically obtained in 1 year of experience working in a college health center.
