POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Standardized Patient Educator to join our team of professionals.
Duties include:
- Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the Standardized Patient (SP) program within the Office of Medical Education.
- Liaises with the Herbert Wertheim Human Resources (HWCOM HR) team regarding the recruitment process of all SPs.
- Supervises and trains SPs in preparation for encounters and performs quality assessments of their work. Oversees and coordinates SPs in teaching and assessment activities involving medical students, interns, residents, physicians, and other professionals.
- Collaborates on the development and design of scenarios for teaching and assessment activities involving SPs.
- Evaluates the SP Program and provides suggestions for quality improvement initiatives.
- Provides orientation to students, residents and other professionals on the simulation center and activities conducted within the center.
- Works with different departments and programs across FIU to promote the SP program.
- Coordinates and oversees all SP projects and initiatives.
- Interacts with other members of the SP community on a local, national and international level. Attends and participates in appropriate organizational workshops to keep current on educational theory and practice in the use of simulation and Standardized Patients in medical education.
- Travels between campuses and/or affiliated sites.
- Tracks SP budget and reports SP related expenses. Assists with all purchases related to the SP program and ensures that operations are managed within authorized budget. Assists in the preparation of quotes, invoices, and billing for SP services.
- Prepares and updates materials for all standardized patient events such as patient scripts, checklists, evaluations and schedules. Maintains inventory of gown, linens and SP props and coordinates laundry pick-up and delivery.
- Under the guidance of the Simulation Center leadership collects and analyses data for annual SP evaluations.
- Maintains database of cases, materials and assessment tools.
- Operates all technical resources including Educational Management Solutions (EMS) to facilitate teaching and evaluation of medical students, PA students and other affiliates
- Assists with grants/partnership funding opportunities for institutional collaboration and research applications in simulation-based learning and evaluation and institutional patient safety. Supports the development and writing of Institutional Review Board (IRB) and generated grants.
- Assists with room and equipment set-up and break down for simulation events. Assists with tours and other events as needed.
- Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of office or related experience.
DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standardized Patient Educator Certification within a year of employment.
