BUILDING INSPECTOR I DEFINITION AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Under close supervision, assists with simple building inspections and the enforcement of building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes and laws; and to do related work as required.  The Building Inspector I class is the entry level trainee position. The incumbent in this class works under close supervision learning to perform less complex building inspection tasks and code requirements.

 

BUILDING INSPECTOR II DEFINITION AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Under supervision, to inspect buildings and structures at various stages of construction, to inspect building alterations and repair, to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes and applicable laws; to do related work as required.  The Building Inspector II class is the journey level class in the series. Incumbents in this class work under general supervision and are assigned more complex duties, as skills and knowledge are acquired.

 

BUILDING INSPECTOR III DEFINITION AND DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Under general supervision; to inspect buildings and structures, including complex apartments, commercial and industrial projects, at various stages of construction, alteration and repair; to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical housing codes and laws; to do related work as required. The Building Inspector III class is the technical, advanced journey level class in the series. The incumbent in this class works under general supervision and performs a variety of inspections including complex projects. The position will often assume a lead worker role but is not considered mid-management.
