The Position

The City of Yuba City is currently accepting applications for Water Distribution Operator III. Under general supervision, Water Distribution Operators perform a variety of tasks in the repair, maintenance and construction of public works infrastructure and facilities, and performs other related work as required.  Incumbents will be expected to work a variety of schedules including nights, weekends, and stand-by.  Personnel on stand-by must remain physically able to respond within forty-five (45) minutes to the incident and refrain from the use of alcohol, medications, or substances that may interfere with their ability to effectively respond to any call for service.  Furthermore, Water Distribution Operators are expected to have general knowledge of Storm Drainage, Sewer Collection, and Streets Maintenance. A Water Distribution Operator III provides lead direction to other workers, but has no supervisory responsibilities.

The classification of Water Distribution Operator III represents the highest level of  the series.  Incumbents in this class are expected to perform their assigned tasks with limited supervision, are assigned technically advanced duties and may be assigned responsibility for field direction of assigned crews.  Incumbents are expected to know the work functions, act independently, and advise supervisor of needed work and approximate time and materials needed to complete the work.  Incumbents are expected to have proven skills in the operation of all assigned equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
Experience:  Three (3) years of recent work experience in public works construction or maintenance work relating to water systems including at least one (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to a Water Distribution Operator II with the City of Yuba City.
Licenses and/or Certificates Required:
At time of hire or promotion from Water Distribution Operator II, must possess a valid California Class A driver's license with Airbrake endorsement and a D-3 Water Distribution Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Successful completion of specialized training in Work Zone Traffic Control Safety is required. Acquire a Cross Connection Control Specialist certificate within twelve (12) months of appointment to Water Distribution Operator III.
