The City of Yuba City is currently recruiting for Public Safety Dispatcher II - Lateral. Public Safety Dispatchers operate Police, Fire, and local government radio equipment; dispatch mobile units and provide Emergency Medical Dispatch instructions while performing other related duties. This is a journey-level dispatch position which requires the ability to work independently and prioritize information effectively and productively. Dispatchers are assigned to varying work schedules, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

Yuba City, with a population of just over 65,000, is located 41 miles north of the state capitol, Sacramento, at the crossroads of Highway 99 and Highway 20, in the central part of the Sacramento Valley. Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be an experienced dispatcher with a working knowledge of operating procedures and equipment within the dispatch unit. Candidate should have the ability to  address caller concerns and provide quality service at a level that exceeds expectations. Must thrive under pressure and have the ability to work quickly and efficiently in  emergency situations. 

Required Qualifications

Education:  Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience: At least one (1) year experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher I or at least one (1) year of police dispatch experience with another law enforcement agency.

Licenses and/or Certificates

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.   

 

Benefits

Salary: The current monthly salary for Public Safety Dispatcher II is $3,951 - $4,803 monthly. 

Retirement: New employees into the CalPERS retirement system will enroll in the 2.7% @ 57 formula.  Employees meeting CalPERS classic member status will enroll in the 3% @ 55 formula.  The City does not participate in Social Security.  (Classic Members Only: cost share 9% of the employer contribution rate.)

Deferred Compensation: A Deferred Compensation Program is available for City employees. 

Medical/Dental/Vision: The City offers an excellent benefits package with generous City contributions for employees and their dependents to health, dental and vision premiums.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The City pays for an EAP that offers employee and family members up to three (3) visits per six (6) month period, for a total of six (6) sessions per year.

Life Insurance: $5,000 for employee & $2,000 for dependents paid by the City. Employees may elect to purchase additional coverage.

Educational Incentive: The City pays an educational incentive of 2.5% for an Associate’s Degree or POST Intermediate Certificate, or 7.5% for a Bachelor’s Degree or POST Advanced Certificate.

Vacation: 13 days annually for new employees. Vacation accrual increases with time of service up to a maximum of 23 days.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually. Unlimited accrual with pay off provision upon termination of City employment with a minimum of 5 years of City service.

Flexible Spending Account: Allows for pre-tax deductions for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses.
