Description
The City of Yuba City is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time Fire Safety Inspector I/II. Under direct supervision of the Fire Marshal, Fire Safety Inspectors inspect fire protection systems, new construction sites, industrial and commercial occupancies and institutional and public assemblage occupancies to insure a practical level of fire and life safety exists in compliance with applicable state and local regulations and preforms related work. The Fire Safety Inspector typically works a 40 hour scheduled work week, but may also be assigned as an on call Fire Investigator as needed. This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits.
The Department
The Yuba City Fire Department protects an area of thirty square miles with a population of approximately 73,000 people. Five fire stations are utilized for both emergency and support operations throughout the City and beyond. Required Qualifications:
FIRE SAFETY INSPECTOR I:
Education: Coursework in Fire Technology, Fire Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field. Completion of the California State Fire Marshal’s Fire Inspector 1A and 1B. At least six (6) college level units in Fire or Building Technology related coursework.
Experience: Six (6) months as a Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, or combination Fire/Building Inspector.
Licenses and/or Certificates Required: Successful completion of the California State Fire Marshal’s courses Fire Inspector 1C and Fire Inspector 1D before the end of the initial probation period. Possession of a valid basic first aid/CPR card within the first eight months of employment. Successful completion of a Penal Code Section 832 course (Arrest, Search, Seizure, and Firearms) within one year of appointment. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.
FIRE SAFETY INSPECTOR II:
Education: Completion of AA/AS Degree with major coursework in Fire Technology, Fire Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field. At least six (6) college level units in fire of building technology related coursework plus State of California Certification as a Fire Inspector II; successful completion of a California Penal Code 832 course; and successful completion of the State Fire Marshal’s Fire Investigation IA and 1B course.
Experience: Two (2) years recent, full-time experience in Fire Building Code enforcement and Fire Investigation.
Licenses and/or Certificates Required: Successful completion of the California State Fire Marshal’s courses Fire Prevention 2A and Fire Prevention 2B before the end of the initial probation period. Possession of a valid basic first aid/CPR card. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.
**Effective January 1, 2015, all employees hired into this classification who live outside a sixty (60) minute response time to Yuba City Fire Headquarters must, within six (6) months of hire date, establish and maintain a permanent residence within a geographic proximity that ensures a thirty (30) minute response time (under normal, non-peak driving conditions) to Yuba City Fire Headquarters. This response time requirement is considered a mandatory qualification for employment. Google Maps will be the measuring tool for determining geographical proximity.
Benefits
Salary: The current monthly salary for Fire Safety Inspector I/II is $4,743 - $6,430 Monthly.
Retirement: New employees into the CalPERS retirement system will enroll in the 2.7% @ 57 formula. Employees meeting CalPERS classic member status will enroll in the 3% @ 55 formula. The City does not participate in Social Security.
Deferred Compensation: A Deferred Compensation Program is available for City employees.
Medical/Dental/Vision: The City offers an excellent benefits package with generous City contributions for employees and their dependents to health, dental and vision premiums.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The City pays for an EAP that offers employee and family members a maximum of three (3) visits per six (6) month period, for a total of six (6) sessions per year.
Life Insurance: $5,000 for employee and $2,000 per dependent is paid for by the City. Additional coverage is also available for employee purchase.
Tuition Reimbursement: $1,150 annually for tuition and books.
Vacation: Vacation accruals shall be adjusted to the following amount per pay period: Employees who work a forty (40) hour work week will accrue 4.6 hours per pay period. Employees who work a fifty-six (56) hour work week will accrue 6.5 hours per pay period. There are 26 pay periods per year. Vacation accrual increases with time of service.
Sick Leave: Sick leave accruals are 3.7 hours per pay period for forty (40) hour work week employees and 5.6 hours per pay period for fifty-six (56) hour work week employees. Sick leave has unlimited accrual with pay off provision upon termination of City employment with a minimum of five (5) years of City service.
Flexible Spending Account: Allows for pre-tax deductions for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses.
Computer Purchase Program: Assists employees in the purchase of computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
