The City of Rancho Cordova is looking for an energetic and results driven Assistant Engineer or Associate Civil Engineer.
The successful candidate will be a team player with skill in building relationships, project management, and have excellent written communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate has experience in multiple areas such as project management of civil engineering works from concept through construction, bicycle and pedestrian project implementation, traffic engineering, experience with grant applications, and understanding of federally funded projects. ASSISTANT ENGINEER:
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of technical and professional field and office engineering work related to public works projects and programs in the Public Works Department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry level class in the professional engineering series. Positions in this class typically have limited directly related work experience. The Assistant Engineer class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Associate Civil Engineer level. Incumbents work under general supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that will provide the ability to perform the work and provide the performance results as stated above. A typical way of gaining the education and experience for the position would be:
EXPERIENCE:
One year of technical engineering experience.
TRAINING:
Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in civil engineering or a related field.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
Possession of a valid Engineer-In-Training Certificate in the State of California.
ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER:
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of difficult and complex professional civil engineering work in connection with the design, surveying, testing of materials and construction of public works projects, including roads, drainage, bridges, and other related structures, and may act as lead supervisor to a small group of engineers and/or subprofessional engineering staff on public works projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level class in the professional engineering series and is distinguished from the Assistant level by the assignment of the full range of duties and possession of registration as a Professional Engineer. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
This class is distinguished from that of the Senior Civil Engineer in that the latter is an advanced journey level class responsible for complex and difficult engineering projects and programs and may exercise direct supervision over professional engineering staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from an assigned supervisor or manager. May exercise direct supervision over technical and administrative support personnel.

EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience comparable to that of an Assistant Civil Engineer at the City of Rancho Cordova.
TRAINING:
Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in civil engineering or a related field.
LICENSE and CERTIFICATE:
Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
Possession of a valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California or possession of registration in another state with ability to obtain registration in California within one year.
