Audio Technician Coordinator (Seasonal)
Position Details
Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt
Salary: Starts at $13.00 to $17.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications
Hours: Various, depending on event schedule and needs. Primary days/times in summer season (June –August) are Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays for Starring at Staring concert series as well as special events and summer musical (June 10-16, 20-23). Additional shifts may occur in Sept-October.
Location: Concerts and event sites in Eden Prairie with primary location at Staring Lake Amphitheater
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor - Arts and Events
Recreation Division
The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people for all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, the Art Center and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheatre and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District.
Position Responsibilities
Position Details
The Audio Technician Coordinator manages sound set-up, execution, and tear down for rentals, concerts, the summer musical, and special events with additional duties as needed. This position splits duties with another Audio Technician and occasionally works in tandem for larger events and rentals. The primary location for this seasonal position is at the Staring Lake amphitheater and requires soundboard management in an outdoor setting. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Provides excellent customer service to all guests, volunteers, staff, and contracted talent at the Staring Lake Amphitheater.
- Works collaboratively with the Recreation Supervisor- Arts & Events, Recreation Lead- Events, and additional Audio Technician Coordinator to establish and maintain sound tech schedules and policies.
- Sets up, operates and takes down sound equipment which may include microphones, speakers, mixing board, and other equipment as required.
- Serves as contact to performance groups and provides customized sound support to meet performance needs; may include assistance with loading and unloading equipment; introduces groups before each performance and provides assistance with any last minute requests.
- Oversees safe use of sound equipment and supplies.
- Monitors the sound level/ sound amplification according to the City of Eden Prairie’s sound/noise ordinance.
- Assists with decision-making process regarding cancellations of performances due to inclement weather or other circumstances.
- Provides timely responses and feedback to City staff.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Position Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
Work Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age; one to six months experience with various sound systems including set-up, operation, production, take-down, and troubleshooting required.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull 75–100 lbs and the ability to bend/stand/reach.
