Child Care Worker
Education/Certification: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. An Associates Degree from an accredited college or university, or a high school graduate will be considered based on relative experience of the individual.
Experience: High school—2 years of related experience, AA—1 year related experience, BA—related educational focus & experience. Positive Work History and Life Experience may be considered to supplement work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Essential Functions: Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with clients, families, staff and community contacts with a diversity of backgrounds and life situations. Capacity to participate in the principles and practices of the inter-disciplinary team approach. Good verbal and written communication, problem solving and organizational skills required. Must be creative and able to perform duties under general supervision. Excellent time management skills and ability to manage more than one project required. Working knowledge of computers required. Valid Driver's license required and must meet insurance liability requirements throughout employment.
Work is typically performed in residential and/or large group areas within living units, recreational settings, classrooms and community sites.

Able to satisfactorily complete all requirements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation/First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator.

Lifting, moving and carrying of equipment/supplies may be required.

Must be prepared and able to perform a variety of functions/activities with children on a daily basis.
Job Summary:
Be an appropriate role model for children in care. Create and maintain an atmosphere which is beneficial to the physical and emotional health of the youngsters. Be responsible for guiding and directing the children in care, participating in the assessment of the progress of each youngster.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with the children and their families that are responsive to their needs and are in accordance with the established treatment plan.
Promote the growth of guardian-child relationship as indicated by that plan and directed by clinical staff.
Provide for the safety and well being of the children in care through the judicious use of knowledge and supervision of their whereabouts, attention to their needs and remembrance of their unique life situation.
Timely identify and effectively communicate all behavioral, emotional or medical needs. Confer regularly with the unit supervisor, social worker and medical staff as needed on each child’s progress.
Provide for the growth and development of each child in care through instructing, counseling and directing them in matters of personal conduct, hygiene, appearance, social skills, school, routines and work habits.
Confer with the Director of Spiritual Life as needed to ensure the spiritual and holistic needs and wishes of each child are understood and administered to.
Practice trained techniques in CARE, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and any other agency or department specific methods of interacting with and supporting the children. Use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Techniques will be practiced in conjunction with other therapeutic methods when supporting children through crises.
Be responsible for the security of the unit and unit office areas. This includes the safe and files, funds and any confidential material.
Assure confidentiality of each child’s case through only necessary discussion at appropriate time and place.
Provide safe and responsible transports for youth, families, and other Children’s Home affiliates as required by program expectations.
Provide for the recreational needs and leisure time activities of children in care by planning, supervising and participating in activities both within and away from the unit setting. Confer with recreation department as needed.
Foster the social, vocational and cultural needs and interests of each child in planning of activities, individual and group.
Ensure that the standards of a high performing team member are role modeled on a daily basis. Communicate in a responsive, professional manner within the Agency and with all community contacts.
Provide constant feedback to supervisor regarding all areas of job duties, positive and challenging.
Perform any and all miscellaneous job duties as may be required from time to time.
