The Policy Consultant is a full-time, exempt position that performs professional and administrative work to advance the goals of California State PTA, with an emphasis on managing and expanding specific grants, which include arts education outreach and advocacy, as part of designated grant funding projects. The position also manages and/or implements strategies to advance other grant projects and association priorities related to family engagement and parent mobilization. The position is classified as a Program Manager on the exempt salary schedule. It reports to the Interim Assistant Executive Director and works closely with other staff departments such as the School Smarts program, as well as volunteer-led committees and commissions and partner organizations.
Essential Functions
- Works with the Special Committee for Arts Education and other committees, commissions and staff departments to initiate, coordinate and evaluate strategies to advance arts education outreach and advocacy objectives as set forth in the
- Manages day-to-day arts education outreach activities, including content and delivery, timelines and deliverables, and other aspects.
- Provides direct support to the Special Committee for Arts Education, including consulting with the Chair and assisting with meeting preparation and follow-up.
- Maintains, compiles and analyzes data to regularly monitor progress towards project indicators and targets; prepares periodic progress reports and
- Builds relationships with state and local volunteer PTA leaders and assists them in planning and carrying out activities to advance grant and other program objectives, including developing materials, planning and delivering trainings and planning and coordinating other special events.
- Represents the association at arts education meetings and convenings, as assigned.
- Develops and strengthens relationships with partners and organizations with shared goals, such as educators, community groups, arts groups, policymakers and
- Conducts and compiles research related to arts education, as well as other education topics.
- Works closely with the School Smarts program team to implement strategies and activities to advance other association grants and objectives, including those related to family engagement, LCFF-LCAP and “next-level” parent advocacy and mobilization.
- Facilitates communications with multiple audiences; promotes diversity and inclusion to maximize broad participation.
- Effectively utilizes online organizing to engage local and statewide supporters; prepares materials for the website and social
- Writes and edits articles, reports, summaries, background papers, key messages and other materials; Prepares materials for the website and social
- Consistent with California State PTA priorities and positions, assists in initiating and developing advocacy strategies and messages, including member and community mobilization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive project/program management experience, including organizing and implementing activities and strategies, managing budgets and proven results meeting project objectives.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans and solutions to advance grant objectives.
- Ability to grasp complex policy issues and communicate them in a clear, understandable manner.
- Experience coordinating teams and projects with multiple partners as well as building coalitions; ability to work well with people in a professional
- Adept at utilizing technology to maximize effectiveness and achieve successful outcomes.
- Excellent writing skills and strong presentation skills.
- Strong training and presentation skills
- Familiarity with public education policy, parent and family engagement and/or arts education.
- Travel within California is a requirement for this
