General Counsel
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) manages the legal affairs of the California Housing Finance Agency by providing advice on day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives. The General Counsel is the chief legal officer of CalHFA and supervises its legal staff. The office also supports CalHFA’s lending, insurance, and financing programs. Exercising broad discretion and independence, the General Counsel is responsible for all legal matters relating to the operation of CalHFA; plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, supervises and reviews the work of the Assistant Chief Counsels.
The position is based in the Agency's headquarters in downtown Sacramento.

Compensation
The salary range is: $11,667-17,500. Comprehensive benefits include California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision care insurance plans, tax deferred savings plans, and a $50,000 group term life insurance policy. Additional benefits include generous leave options.
Desirable Qualifications
All candidates must have active membership in The State Bar of California. In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience related to the duties of the position, the following factors will be considered and will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
· Possess direct experience in one or all of the following: real estate law, banking and finance (single family and/or multifamily lending), personnel and/or labor law.
· Possess direct experience managing the work of subordinate attorneys as well as support staff.
· Possess experience providing legal support to executive level staff and/or a governing board, as well as working knowledge of the Bagley-Keene Act and Robert’s Rules of Order.
· Possess experience streamlining departmental processes or activities through the use of technology or other means.
· Ability to analyze situations accurately, utilizing a variety of analytical techniques in order to make well informed decisions.
· Ability to develop and evaluate alternatives.
· Skill to gather, analyze and interpret data.
· Skill to interpret and apply labor contracts.
· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
