Position Overview
Are you a seasoned labor relations professional with a passion for advocacy and organizing? Join a dynamic team that represents higher education professionals across California. As a Labor Relations Representative / Organizing Specialist, you will be on the front lines of labor advocacy—ensuring that CSU employees are treated fairly, heard, and empowered.
This role blends traditional labor relations work with strategic internal organizing and member engagement. You’ll represent members in grievances and disciplinary meetings, train and advise stewards, develop campus campaigns, and collaborate directly with union leadership to build long-term power for our members.
Key Responsibilities

Represent APC members in grievances, disciplinary matters, and investigations.

Provide contract interpretation, support, and advice on employment rights under the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Assist in the development and training of stewards and local chapter officers.

Design and execute organizing strategies that build chapter strength and member involvement.

Conduct regular worksite visits and participate in chapter and campus events.

Monitor campus labor relations issues and elevate trends to APC leadership.

Engage members in contract campaigns, mobilization efforts, and union-wide initiatives.

Ensure APC fulfills its Duty of Fair Representation responsibilities.

Apply expert knowledge of labor law, HEERA, and public sector labor standards.

Collaborate with a diverse workforce in a fast-paced, politically nuanced environment.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in labor relations or employee representation, preferably in the public sector.

Proven ability to handle grievance and complaint investigations with discretion and professionalism.

Strong understanding of state and federal labor laws, including HEERA.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with organizing, mobilization, or internal campaigns.

Willingness and ability to travel frequently across California and work evenings/weekends as needed.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
